Setting up custom server

Postby soitjes » Mon Oct 28, 2013 7:56 pm

Hi,

I can't manage to set up my own server. I have a web server running on port 80. But if I fill in the hostname or IP address I always get the error "Error receiving server answer. Please check your server URL or contact the server admin with this error (-1)". But the server is listening, because when I send a post an http message using API kitchen it receive it without problem. But I never receive the message from the Btraced app.

Any idea where I should look ?

Thanks,

Soitjes.

This is what I've done :

- I've set up a web server on my home PC
- I configured my firewall so that http is forwarded to my PC
- I have registered a dynamic host and the url for my server is http://myserver.no-ip.info

Then I do a test using API kitchen, where I can send http POST requests from the Internet, and I receive the message. So it's working.

Then I set the same url in BTraced, but the only thing I get is this error message "Error receiving server answer. Please check your server URL or contact the server admin with this error (-1)", and I don't see any POST request arriving in my server.

So what am I doing wrong ?

what is your OS and type of webserver.
did you use one of the sample webserver files to grab the xml send by the Btraced app?

I use a web server written in Delphi. The problem is not that I can't parse the XML, the problem is that I don't receive anything from the BTraced App, even though my webserver is running fine.

It's a simple HTTP Post I should receive, not ? Do I need to specify an URI in BTraced, or just the hostname ?

I think i saw some uploads from you to btraced.com..right?
If so that the app is uploading to a server.
You can upload to your server for example www.xxxx.com/upload.asp
In that file tou grab the xml and can save it to a file on the server if you want, this is easy to test.
Samples for this are on the server, perhaps you can use them and reporgram them to Delphi, i have no delphi skills
But recieving the xml should be no problem, we have many users who do that to own server, even to the Raspberry.
Hope you get it done

I found it. At home my smartphone is connected to the Wifi, which means it connect from the inside. The port forwarding doesn't work because that only works from the Internet.

Once I've turned off the Wifi and my smartphone switches to 3G it works fine.

Thanks,
